It's surprising what three & four-year-old children can do...
Use oral language skills to name, describe, compare, and contrast.
Listen to, understand, and discuss themes from conversations, storybooks, rhymes, songs, and chants.
Express their thoughts and feelings through movement and with language.
Draw, dictate, write, build, and dramatize what they know and experience. Use prewriting strokes in art experiences to express their ideas and develop fine-motor skills.
Retell stories and develop print awareness that connects spoken and written language.
Learn concepts using math vocabulary words to identify and compare numbers of objects for more, less, same, or equal.
Demonstrate problem-solving abilities, discuss predictions, and explain generalizations based on past experiences.
The Pre Kindergarten Program in Cedar Hill ISD exists with the sole purpose of ensuring that students in our community have the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop using research based and empirically supported methods and materials. The program is free to eligible students and is funded by the State of Texas for students who meet eligibility requirements based on income, limited English Language proficiency, homelessness, foster child status, and/or parent who is active duty military. It is our hope that students who complete the CHISD Pre Kindergarten Program will be "School Ready" by the time they enter Kindergarten.
Based on Texas Education Guidelines, pre kindergarten students in Cedar Hill ISD will receive instruction and practice in the following ten domains:
• Social and Emotional Development • Language and Communication • Emergent Literacy Reading • Emergent Literacy Writing • Mathematics • Science • Social Studies • Fine Arts • Physical Development • Technology
Teachers help children develop these abilities using curriculum that is aligned with standards for the Texas Pre-K Guidelines and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Cedar Hill ISD has adopted the Frog Street Curriculum.
Frog Street Pre-K builds a community of learners with comprehensive lessons, differentiated instruction and a strong social and emotional daily routine. Instruction is offered in english and Spanish to meet the needs of children in our district. Keeping a joyful approach to learning is another cornerstone of the program.
